MLB.TV Videoboard Spot

Summary

I created this spot myself, from start to finish, in under a week. The project was built out so that footage could be dropped into pre-comps in order to tailor the spot to specific teams. The final result was shown (and may still be showing) in ballparks across the country.

Process

I created style boards in Photoshop for each sequence of the spot. These were edited until they were approved for animation and then built out in After Effects. Each sequence was animated individually and then comped in over the cloudy particle background in order to tie the sections together, but keep each component modular and easily editable without retiming and rerendering the rest of the animation.

The spot contained a number of particle effects like the ground smoke, the particle rain from the gaming consoles, and the particle ring in the open. These effects were created in Trapcode Particular and took a while to render. The trick was to pre-render each element and use them as footage elements, as they didn't need to be edited after the first render.
